A design student in the UK has produced a nice prototype of a cardboard bike. Using regular bike components for the tricky sections. (the wheels, gears and chain) he is able to cut the price of the bike to around 15 pounds. I’m thinking this would be great for a tourist. Where you could buy a bike rather than rent one.

Kung Fu Panda

Posted by: darren on 24 June 2008

It seems that along with a new movie is a selection on merchandise and animated movies are no exception. In this case you have a chance to make your own with all the main characters available for free download and construction. The detail looks fairly basic and should be suitable for a holiday project.

Here’s an extended tutorial on book binding. The results look fantastic if you are willing to put in the hard work.
It would be a great hand made gift for a wedding or graduation. Make sure if you do go to the effort you use good quality paper that will last.

More Folded Chairs

Posted by: darren on 22 June 2008

The seats are made out of big sheets of pattern paper or wallpaper, filled with expanded polyurethane foam. The folded structure acts as a mould and as an “upholstery”; after being shaped the empty paper chair is steady enough to hold its form and enable polyurethane casting.

This looks very interesting. Although it’s not the first time origami has been used in this way. It looks like it’s a quite sturdy and usable peice of equipment.

tpod Origami for tea drinkers

Posted by: darren on 11 February 2008

Just a quick post for those enjoy origami and tea. Now you can enjoy both at the same time. It seems more like a house warming gift than an everyday event. I guess it all depends on the quality of the tea.
